WILCAC secondary market annuities
WILCAC Life Insurance Company is the former Continental Assurance Company, the life arm of CNA Financial, acquired by Wilton Re in 2014 and renamed. Structured settlement annuities written under the CNA name are now WILCAC's obligation, administered by a company whose entire business is running in-force blocks.

What it means
Backed by WILCAC
When a payment stream is backed by WILCAC, the scheduled payments are that carrier's obligation. You are buying the right to receive those payments — transferred through a court-approved process — at a discount, not a new insurance contract, and the difference between what you pay and what you collect is your yield. Read more about the asset itself on our secondary market annuities guide.
Because the income depends on WILCAC continuing to pay, the carrier's financial strength is your protection. These payment rights are not FDIC-insured and generally are not covered by a state guaranty association, so we place only top-rated carriers and show the current rating on every listing. Where a WILCAC-backed stream sits against CDs, Treasuries, and new annuities is laid out on our comparison page.
The company
A brief history
Continental Assurance Company was the life insurance arm of Chicago's CNA Financial and wrote structured settlement annuities for decades of court-approved settlements. When CNA exited the life business, the company was acquired by Wilton Re in 2014 and renamed WILCAC Life Insurance Company.
Wilton Re is a specialist in acquiring and administering in-force life and annuity blocks — servicing existing obligations like these is its core business rather than a legacy sideline. The scheduled payments on a CNA-era structured settlement annuity remain the obligation of the same legal entity, now operating as WILCAC Life.
For an investor holding or considering a WILCAC-backed stream, the name on decades-old settlement paper may read Continental Assurance or CNA; the listing names the current issuing entity and its financial-strength rating as of the listing date so you can verify exactly who owes the payments today.
