Symetra Trek Plus

A RILA from Symetra · reviewed from official materials, July 2026

Symetra's registered index-linked annuity: buffers from 10% to 100%, plus crediting variants exotic enough to require the prospectus.

The decoder

Reading the quote

A chosen buffer, 10% to 100% — and variants that credit in down markets

Trek Plus quotes caps, participation rates, or trigger rates per 1-, 2-, or 6-year term, with downside handled by a buffer you select — anywhere from 10% to a full 100%. Its distinctive features go further: a Buffer Plus account adds the buffer rate to a negative index return (a down market can still credit positively), and a Dual Trigger account can credit in some negative markets. Symetra's own material keeps the balance honest: "There is a risk of substantial loss of principal." Granular terms live in the SEC prospectus, which is exactly where a buyer should read them.

Trek Plus sits at the aggressive end of the family we cover in our RILA decoder: the buffer menu is unusually wide, and the specialty crediting accounts blur the usual up-market/down-market boundary — for a price, since charge-bearing accounts deduct their fee "regardless of the amount of indexed interest, whether positive or negative."

Because it is a registered product, the contract-level specifics (minimums, issue ages, surrender mechanics) are in the prospectus rather than the consumer pages; treat any summary — including this one — as a map to that document, not a substitute for it.

The comparison

Against a payment stream

These are opposites. A RILA accepts market risk within defined bounds for equity-linked upside; a payment stream removes market movement from the equation entirely — a fixed schedule at a stated estimated yield, with the issuing carrier's credit as the risk that remains. Investors choose by which uncertainty they would rather own.

The family mechanics are covered in our RILA decoder; what the secondary market pays right now is on the current estimated yields page. And because Symetra also stands behind payment streams we list, its role as an issuer is profiled on our Symetra carrier page.
