Pacific Secure Income

A DIA from Pacific Life · reviewed from official materials, July 2026

Pacific Life's deferred income annuity and QLAC vehicle — future income in dollars, no cash value, and a state-availability list worth checking first.

The decoder

Reading the quote

Future dollars, priced off the annuitant's life expectancy

Like its immediate sibling, this product quotes future income in dollars: "it's the annuitant's life expectancy that is used to set the dollar amount of future annuity income." Deferring longer buys more income for the same premium — for the DIA reasons our decoder covers: years of investment time, principal return, and survivorship. There is no cash surrender value at any point, and Pacific Life's own footnote lists six states where the product is simply not available: California, Illinois, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

This is Pacific Life's longevity-insurance product: flexible premiums lock in future income, with death-before-income handled by return-of-premium on most payout forms (and nothing on the life-only forms — the trade that buys their higher quotes).

As a QLAC it carries the standard federal mechanics — qualified money up to $210,000 (2026, indexed) excluded from RMD math until income begins — but Pacific Life's version strips the commutation, acceleration, and inflation features when QLAC status is elected, a detail their own footnote is explicit about.

The comparison

Against a payment stream

A deferred-start payment stream is the closest secondary-market cousin — future payments bought at a discount, often at a deeper effective yield precisely because start dates are far out. A guaranteed stream pays its schedule regardless of any life and passes to your estate; the DIA pays for exactly as long as you live. Opposite risks, similar shape.

The family mechanics are covered in our DIA decoder; what the secondary market pays right now is on the current estimated yields page. And because Pacific Life also stands behind payment streams we list, its role as an issuer is profiled on our Pacific Life carrier page.
