Pacific Income Provider

A SPIA from Pacific Life · reviewed from official materials, July 2026

Pacific Life's immediate annuity quotes a dollar income payment, not a rate — set by age, gender, premium, and the payout option you lock at issue.

The decoder

Reading the quote

A dollar payment, not a percentage

Pacific Life sidesteps the payout-rate framing: this product is quoted as guaranteed income payments in dollars, which "will differ based on several factors, including your age, gender, and the amount you contribute." The number to scrutinize is the payout option behind it — life-only quotes highest and can end with nothing beyond the last check; refund and period-certain forms quote lower and protect more. The option is set at issue and, in their words, "cannot be changed."

A classic SPIA from one of the two Pacific Life issuing companies (Pacific Life Insurance Company outside New York; Pacific Life & Annuity Company everywhere including New York). The irrevocability is total once income begins — the escalator options are at-issue elections, while the limited liquidity features (payment acceleration and the present-value withdrawal) are available after the first year without pre-election, within their age and contract-type rules.

Because the quote arrives in dollars, comparing it against other income products means converting to the same units: annual income ÷ premium gives the payout rate — which, as our SPIA decoder covers, includes your own principal coming back and is not an interest rate.

The comparison

Against a payment stream

A guaranteed payment stream quotes a true effective yield on a fixed schedule that pays regardless of any life — and whatever remains is your estate's. (Life-contingent streams are different: they pay only while the original payee lives, at higher estimated yields, with a life-insurance hedge protecting the investor's yield.) A SPIA covers the one risk a fixed schedule cannot: living far beyond it. Many investors hold both for different jobs.

The family mechanics are covered in our SPIA decoder; what the secondary market pays right now is on the current estimated yields page. And because Pacific Life also stands behind payment streams we list, its role as an issuer is profiled on our Pacific Life carrier page.
